Kickboxing

Kickboxing has become one of the most popular Martial Art training methods here in the UK and throughout the world.

It is a relatively new concept of Martial Art starting in the 70’s.

Techniques are taken from traditional styles which feature kicking, punching and blocking. It is an effective system of training methods that gets people kicking and punching with some power in a short space of time.

Training

There are a number of benefits to be gained from Kickboxing training. It will improve:

  • Health and Fitness
  • Self Defence
  • Flexibility
  • Balance
  • Co-ordination

Training will consist of hand, foot blocking and footwork drills. Pad work and bag work.

Sparring will put all the techniques into practice with other students developing speed, timing, accuracy and the ability to hit and be hit.

Techniques

Techniques used in Kickboxing include:

Hand : Jab, Reverse, Hook, Upper Cut, and Backfist Punches

Foot: Front, Back, Round, Side, Hook, Axe, Spinning and Jumping Kicks.

Blocking: Upper, Middle and Lower Blocks.

Competition Kickboxing is also very popular.

There are a number of different types of contact which include: full, light, and semi-contact.

Tournaments for semi and light contact exist throughout the UK.
